Obituary of Douglas Stapleton

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Stapleton announce his passing on Thursday, July 15, 2021, after his 20-month battle with cancer. Doug was born on August 6, 1962, in Esquesing, Ontario to Lloyd and Frances Stapleton. He grew up in Toronto and had many fond memories involving sports and was a huge fan of Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, Raptors, and Buffalo Bills. Later he also became a big fan of Nascar and iRacing. He was an avid world traveller since his early 20s and a collector of sports memorabilia. He was known for his quick wit, his sense of humour, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Doug was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Frances. He is survived by his heart broken wife of 23 years, Vicki Yu, loving sister Betty Ann, father-in-law Quanqing, mother-in-law Yuhua, sister-in-law Nina, and brother-in-law Lujie, nephew Jeff, nieces Kim and Kerry. He will be deeply missed by Uncle Bob, Aunt Lil, Aunt Sandra, Aunt Fern, Aunt Marg, and Aunt Cathy, Cousin Bonnie May, Greg, Charlie, and many other extended family members and friends. The family would also like to thank Dr. Mathews and his staff at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre for their care of Doug. Thank you, the staff at the Hub International for their support and assistance. Special thanks to Matt D. who regularly sent messages to Doug with his busy family schedule and invited Doug to sports events. Thank you, Andrew, Doug’s best friend for over 50 years, for his weekly checking in phone calls. Thank you, John, Doug’s close friend in Barrie, for all his phone calls and text messages that brightened up many dull winter days during COVID. The family is so thankful for what you did.
